  • Parts of the press (hydraulic and mechanical presses)
  • Functions of press component parts
  • Danger of incorrect shut height adjustment and pitfalls
  • Pre shift inspections
  • Importance of lock-out procedures and when required
  • Use of blocking devices
  • Methods of set up
  • Proper clamping methods
  • Adjusting the air-counterbalance system
  • Checking safety devices
  • Types of guards and guarding devices
  • Entrapment rescue requirements for non-members of the rescue team

Advanced Punch Press Operator Training For Punch Press Operation / Die Setters


Course Objectives:

Significantly Increase the knowledge of punch press operations and requirements through theoretical training

  • Increase professionalism of personnel
  • Improve set up time and methods of set up
  • Reduce accidents and damage to machinery and tooling

Program Content:

  • Understanding the legal requirements of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
  • Key points of the Standards Association Code for Power Press Operation: Health, Safety, and Guarding Requirements
  • Parts of the mechanical press, advanced understanding of the parts of the press (crankshaft, gears, ram adjustment, counterbalance system, brake monitor etc,)
  • Parts of the hydraulic press, advanced understanding of the parts of the press (reservoir, hydraulic cylinders, etc,) 
  • How to conduct pre shift inspections
  • Lock-out procedures and following the procedures correctly
  • Use of blocking devices and proper installation
  • Understanding the different types of guards and guarding devices and how they operate
  • Understanding their role in an entrapment rescue situation
  • Proper set up and clamping of dies in the machine
  • How to adjust the air-counterbalance system and the different types of counterbalance systems
  • Housekeeping
  • Material Handling basics
  • Use of auxiliary equipment (feeders, straighteners, uncoilers etc)
  • Use of knock out bars
  • Cushions and nitrogen springs
  • Die protection
